Logic, language and cognition

The members of the Department who belong to the area of Logic, Language and Cognition work mainly on philosophical issues that have been elaborated and discussed within the analytic tradition, pursuing the ideal of rigour and clarity that characterizes this tradition. More specifically, adopting a methodological perspective based on the logical analysis of language and on the convergence with cognitive sciences, they deal with problems that concern the notions of validity, truth, meaning, knowledge and rationality, they study mental states and their relations with the mechanisms of cognition and reasoning, and they investigate the metaphysical and ontological implications of language and thought.
