Referring to an important tradition of the University of Turin, the DEF promotes an intense research activity in the field of ontology and hermeneutics, which is articulated in the fields of social ontology, the new hermeneutics and philosophical realism, the theory of perception, the philosophy of art and analytical aesthetics, the philosophy of bureaucracy and the philosophy of the web, the philosophy of the Renaissance.

Open to both analytical and continental methodology, the research in the area of ​​Ontology and Hermeneutics takes place in the Labontopen_in_new (Laboratory of Ontology, founded in 1999), which includes 10 professors and researchers from the Turin and other Italian universities and foreigners and numerous post-doctoral and doctoral students.
